Frequently Asked Questions

What is acupuncture?

Acupuncture is a traditional Chinese medicine practice that involves inserting very fine needles into specific points on the body to stimulate healing, relieve pain, and promote overall wellness.

Does acupuncture hurt?

Most people feel little to no pain during acupuncture. The needles are extremely thin—much thinner than those used for injections—and are gently inserted. Some patients may experience a slight tingling or a dull ache, which is a normal and temporary sensation.

What conditions can acupuncture help with?

Acupuncture can support a wide range of conditions, including:

  • Chronic pain (e.g. back, neck, knee)

  • Stress and anxiety

  • Insomnia

  • Headaches and migraines

  • Digestive issues

  • Hormonal imbalances

  • Facial rejuvenation and more

How many sessions will I need?

The number of sessions depends on your individual goals and health concerns.

For general acupuncture, many people begin to feel relief after 1–3 sessions, especially for issues like pain, stress, or sleep disturbances. Chronic or complex conditions may require weekly treatments over a longer period for lasting results.

For facial acupuncture, we typically recommend an initial series of 8–10 weekly treatments to support visible changes in skin tone, elasticity, and overall glow. After that, a maintenance session every 6–8 weeks helps sustain results over time.

Your practitioner will discuss a personalized treatment plan with you at your first visit.

Is acupuncture safe? What about facial acupuncture?

Yes, both general acupuncture and facial acupuncture are considered very safe when performed by a licensed practitioner registered with the CTCMA (College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists of BC).

We use only sterile, single-use disposable needles in all treatments to ensure maximum safety and hygiene. Facial acupuncture, in particular, is a gentle and natural way to stimulate the skin without chemicals or invasive procedures.

Minor side effects such as slight redness, bruising, or sensitivity at the needle site may occur but are temporary and rare.

If you have specific medical concerns or are pregnant, please let us know prior to your appointment so we can tailor the treatment accordingly.

Do you offer direct billing for insurance?

We do not offer direct billing, but we provide detailed receipts that you can submit to your extended health insurance provider. Many plans cover acupuncture under "paramedical services."

What should I do before and after my treatment?

Before your session, eat a light meal and stay hydrated. Avoid heavy exercise, caffeine, or alcohol. After treatment, rest if possible, stay warm, and drink plenty of water.

Can I receive facial acupuncture if I’ve had Botox or dermal fillers?

We recommend waiting at least 3 months after receiving Botox or fillers before starting facial acupuncture treatments. This allows time for the injected substances to settle and prevents potential interference with your treatment results. If you're unsure, feel free to contact us before booking.
